Local educators will join lawmakers on Saturday morning at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES to discuss the impacts of Governor Cuomo’s executive budget proposal on individual districts.
The Governor has proposed a 3% increase in school funding, less than half of what the Board of Regents recommended. Central NY School Boards Association Executive Director Charles Borgognoni tells Finger Lakes News Radio this is going to be a difficult year for school districts.
Recently, Auburn School Board President Michael MCole said the only way to fix funding is to scrap Foundation Aid, but Borgognoni says that won’t be easy.
With above-inflation cost increases, school leaders and education advocacy groups say the proposed funding won’t be sufficient to maintain current programs and services.
