Cayuga County’s Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday night voted to approve an agreement with AirBnB that will add a hotel tax to rental bills from the online booking company.
County Treasurer Jim Orman told the committee the agreement would be a big step forward. He quipped that other counties do it and they say it’s almost too easy.
The Citizen reports the full legislature will vote to approve the agreement at its January 23 meeting.
Legislators also tabled a resolution that would have called for a public hearing on a proposed pay increase. The lawmakers haven’t received a raise since 2005. Legislator Ben Vitale had suggested a $1,000 increase from the current $10,100 base pay.
