IDA E. BROMKA- age 92, lifetime resident of Ovid, passed away in Waterloo at Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday (January 11, 2018).
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday (January 19, 2018) at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid at 11 a.m. on Saturday (January 20th), by Fathers Bernard Maloney and James Fennessy. Prayers of committal will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the mass.

Ida was born in Seneca Falls on August 16, 1925, one of six children born to George E. and Grace (Ford) McGuire. She was a graduate of Ovid High School and had been a communicant of Holy Cross Church her entire lifetime. She was married to Henry J. Bromka of Romulus on April 3, 1948, and they made Ovid their home in 1951. Her working career began at Sampson State Hospital and then to Ovid Central School as the District’s first female bus driver, and she later retired as a therapy aide from Willard Psychiatric Center. She had been retired for over 37 years and devoted her time to family.
Ida is survived by her loving children James H. (Nancy) Bromka of Romulus, Carol J. (Ron) Birdsall of Farmington, Steven G. (Patricia) Bromka of Havre de Grace, MD, and Carl J. (Belinda Swartwood) Bromka of Interlaken; her grandchildren Christa (Matt) Kinsley, Jared (Sue) Bromka, Alyssa Bromka, Matthew and Daniel Willson, Abigail (Adam) Bull, Steven and Jennifer Bromka, Alex, Christina and Nicole Bromka; her great-grandchildren Lillian, Natalie, Katrina and Henry Bromka, Madison, Avery, Bailey and Grayson Kinsley, Zoey and Jaxon Bull.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Henry J. Bromka in 2001; and by her siblings Phyllis, George Jr., Thomas, Theresa and Marilyn.
