Edwin E. Kirk, 89, died Saturday, January 13, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The family will hold a service and burial in New York at a later date.
He was born in Geneva, N.Y. on November 12, 1928 to the late Frank and Naomi Kirk. As a youth, he played on baseball teams that won New York State high school and Kiwanis League championships. He once pitched at Ebbets Field and tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals. A graduate of Geneva High School, Mr. Kirk served in Korea with the Third Infantry, Tenth Combat Engineers. He worked for many years for the American Can Company, during which time he enjoyed traveling, camping, and coaching Little League baseball. After retiring, he lived at the Carolina Trace community near Sanford, N.C. where he pursued his passion for golf. He spent his final years at Vienna Village Assisted Living in Pfafftown, N.C. He was married for over 65 years to the late Patricia McGuire Kirk.
He is survived by sons Thomas Kirk (Mary McNerney) of Baldwinsville, NY, and Stephen (Mary) Kirk of Pfafftown, N.C., and granddaughters Elizabeth (Peter) Jin of Madison, Wis., and Rebecca Kirk (Zachary MacHardy) of Durham, N.C.
