Senate Republicans want to help seniors by eliminating their school property tax payments. The proposal to erase the payments over the next decade was included in the party’s legislative agenda released on Tuesday.
Senior citizens already get some tax relief. The Enhanced STAR program exempts seniors 65 and older with incomes of less than $86,000 and local governments and school districts can give some exemptions as well as reduced assessments of senior-owned homes.
Making the property tax cap permanent and increasing tax rebates are also on the GOP wish list for 2018.
