The Auburn Fire Department reports via its Facebook page that at 3:39am on New Year’s morning, a General Alarm was received for a fully involved structure fire at the intersection of Washington St. and Orchard St.
The first unit on scene confirmed there was heavy fire on all 3 floors of the home and a second alarm was immediately requested. Engine Company 3 arrived and attempted to use the hydrant in the front yard when the live electrical service came down between them and the hydrant.
Engine Company 2 and Engine Company 4 began to acquire secondary hydrants while Engine Company 3 and Truck Company deployed lines using tank water to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire.
Once water supply was established crews initiated an aggressive interior attack with multiple lines to extinguish the fire. Due to the extreme cold temperatures a third and fourth alarm were requested to bring additional personnel to the scene.
No one was injured, and the occupant of the home is being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
