CANANDAIGUA – Capping off an “incredible week,” Brian Kolb brought his campaign for Governor of New York to the place where it all started Tuesday night, Dec. 19.
Speaking at the annual Christmas Party of the Ontario County Republican Committee, Assembly Minority Leader Kolb thanked the committee members for their “amazing support” and recalled how the committee’s original backing started his political career.
Kolb announced on Dec. 12 that he is a candidate for Governor of New York in 2018. Kolb was first elected to the Assembly in a special election in February 2000 and became the Minority Leader of the Assembly Republicans in 2009.
Kolb told the assembled crowd at the Inn on the Lake in Canandaigua that his political years have been “the best time of my life” and he will remain “eternally grateful.”
Another highlight of the evening was the announcement by Chair Trisha Turner that the 2018 Ontario County Professional Directory will be dedicated to Dave Sanford of Canandaigua, who has been active in the county committee and the Hopewell and Victor town committees for 20 years.
With members of his family looking on, Sanford said that “Republican values are deep in my heart and Ontario County is a great place to live in.”
Sanford, who still chairs the Victor committee, was most recently involved in the successful campaign of Jim Ritts for Ontario County District Attorney. His company, Sanford Industrial Contractors, was recently named to the Rochester Chamber Top 100,
a program that recognizes the fastest-growing privately owned companies in the Greater Rochester region.
As the evening moved on, Turner introduced several other speakers, including State Senators Pam Helming and Rich Funke, who both represent part of Ontario County. Gary Baxter of Geneva, who will be running for re-election as County Treasurer in 2018, praised the work of committee members and added that “You mean so much to my heart that I can’t explain it in words.”
In the last official business before the Christmas party began, Annie Chwiecko, chair of the Gorham Town Committee, announced that this year’s Tastings on the Lake event will take place on Sunday, April 8, at the Inn on the Lake. Chwiecko has served as chair of the event for many years.
