If you rushed to City Hall or the county tax office to pay your 2018 property tax bill after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced his executive order last Friday authorizing municipalities to accept early property tax payments, it may have been for naught.
The IRS announced yesterday it all depends on whether the taxpayer makes the payment this year and the real property taxes are assessed prior to next year.
Cayuga County Treasurer Jim Orman tells Finger Lakes News Radio there’s also a problem with the provision in the order allowing homeowners to make partial payments.
Orman adds making a partial payment won’t be a big help for homeowners.
If you still want to have the chance for the SALT deduction you’ll have to get that done by end of business today.
