Believe it or not, high school basketball is getting underway in the Finger Lakes. In boys’ action, Auburn downed Utica Proctor, 84-72; Red Creek eked by Hannibal, 55-53; Dryden stopped Port Byron, 54-48; Phoenix clobbered Cato-Meridian, 78-51; and Warsaw ran over Red Jacket, 77-45. On the girls’ side, Baldwinsville bashed Geneva, 61-35; and Oswego coasted by Weedsport, 62-46. And in women’s college hoops, Syracuse took down Vanderbilt, 84-78.
In the NBA last night, the Nets dropped a squeaker to Portland, 127-125; while the Hawks beat the Knicks, 116-104.
In the NHL, the Sabres finally won one over Edmonton, 3-1; while the Rangers nipped Detroit, 2-1; and the Islanders outgunned Philly, 5-4.
In the AHL, the Amerks went double-digits in a 10-3 rout over Binghamton; and the Crunch no problem with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 5-2.
