An Elmira man is facing several charges in Nevada connected to the alleged kidnapping and beating of a missing Cortland woman inside a motel room.
23-year-old Jon Wesley Turner is charged with strangulation, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, sexual assault, and false imprisonment.
Beatty, NV authorities say the 25-year-old victim was able to free herself from handcuffs and was able to get to get to the motel’s front desk to summon help. She told police Turner beat and choked her, left her lying unconscious in a nearby street, then dragged her back to the motel and handcuffed her to furniture. Turner allegedly continued beating and choking her, eventually injuring her with a hatchet.
Both Turner and the victim had been reported missing out of 2 separate New York jurisdictions back in August. The two had met online and traveled cross-country together, with the victim allegedly under threat. The victim’s abandoned car was found in California.
The victim was taken to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Turner is being held on $275,000 bail.
