A 34 year old Elmira man that led police on a chase in Chemung County Thursday morning was killed after being shot by police.
According to the Elmira Police Department, the chase began around 5 o’clock following the report of a home invasion robbery where James Davis allegedly fired shots inside of the home. Police located Davis several hours later and were led on a chase into Horseheads. After two of his tires went flat, Davis allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired shots at police. Officers returned fire and struck Davis, who later died at a local hospital.
Davis reportedly had an active warrant issued by the New York State Department of Parole.
