Beverley Faith Joy Thomas Higgins, 73 passed away Thursday, (September 14, 2017). She was predeceased by her parents John Ivor Thomas and Lillian Claridge Thomas.
Beverley was born in Melbourne, Australia, on May 1, 1944. She attended Wheaton High School in Maryland and graduated in the class of 1962 from Cairo American College in Egypt. During her time at Cairo American College she served as class vice president, was on the Pharaoh Staff, social committee, cheerleading squad and was a member of the science club. After graduation she moved to Pennsylvania where she attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a B.A. Degree with a Minor in Education. Beverley taught Social Studies at the Bellefonte School District in Pennsylvania until 1970 when she moved to Seneca Falls. After taking time to raise her children she began teaching in the Seneca Falls School District in 1984 as a Business Teacher at Mynderse Academy. From 1985-1997 Beverley was the Librarian at Elizabeth Cady Stanton School and a Third Grade Classroom Teacher and the beginning of the 1997 school year until her retirement in 2000. In 2001 she did what made her most happy and helped raise her grandchildren.
Beverley lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, Italy and two different times in Egypt; once in 1955 and again in 1960. She enjoyed traveling and visited Spain,France, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Lebanon, Jordan, Gibraltar, the Bahamas, and fulfilled a dream of taking her children to Australia for a family reunion in 1997.
Beverley is survived by her daughter, Kari Higgins Rowley; son-in-law, Robert G. Rowley; and grandchildren Sydney M. Rowley, Alec R. Rowley, Thomas H. Rowley, all from Seneca Falls, N.Y.; son, Kevin E. Higgins; daughter-in-law, LaLannie M.Ovenshire; and grandchildren Brandyn T. Higgins, Bethany M. Ovenshire, all from Waterloo, N.Y.; brother, John Thomas; sister-in-law, Yvonne Thomas from Australia; niece, Lillian Thomas (Andy) Gray; and son, Thomas McKnight from Hinesville, Ga.; and nephew, David Thomas from Georgia.
There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at the Canoga Cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent in her name to Beverly’s Animal Shelter in Waterloo, N.Y. or Autism Speaks.
