Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on state lawmakers to step up the fight against synthetic drugs in NY. He was in Suffolk County yesterday to announce his proposed bill that would add 35 synthetic drugs to the state’s controlled substances list.
He said the drugs are produced and packaged to target the young.
State Police Superintendent George Beach concurred that the marketing of the drugs is aimed at youth.
A similar bill has been proposed in Congress by Rep. John Katko. Cuomo’s plan also authorizes the state health commissioner to add new drugs that have been added to the federal schedule of controlled substances to the state’s list.
