The Schuyler County Planning Commission voted down a set of requested zoning variances related to a proposed 3-story, 41-room Best Western hotel in Watkins Glen.
The Watkins Review reports the commission turned down variances sought for building height, required parking and sets from streets and adjoining properties. The hotel was scheduled to replace the Seneca Clipper Inn at the South Avenue-South Franklin Street intersection. Similar requested zoning variances were approved earlier this summer by the village of Watkins Glen’s Zoning Board of Appeals, but were eventually thrown out after it was determined the process was not followed correctly.
Bharat Patel, who owns and operates the Clipper, said he was not sure where the future of the project now stands.
