The Elmira/Corning Airport in Chemung County is getting some big money for renovations. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced today 10.5-million-dollars in money from Washington to renovate the airport’s passenger terminal building. Schumer says keeping airports in “top-notch shape” is important for attracting businesses and tourists to Chemung County.
The money will cover the first phase of the project, which includes demolishing part of the building, construction of a lounge for departing passengers, and general renovations.
Construction on the short-term parking lot, which was part of a 40-million dollar state grant in 2016, is expected to be finished by October 2018.
