Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike has been authorized by the county legislature to fill three vacant positions in his department.
The positions will include two deputy sheriff positions with 47-THOUSAND dollars budgeted by the county for each post for 2018, and an emergency services dispatcher post that has 42-THOUSAND dollars budgeted for it. Four lawmakers voted against the two deputy hirings, saying the county’s public safety budget is already over-budget and the department over-staffed compared to similar counties the size of Yates.
The legislature also approved Public Health’s director of patient services to create and fill the position of emergency preparedness coordinator that will replace the current EMS coordinator and public health program coordinator jobs. Its believed that consolidation will save county taxpayers money.
