Blue-green algae has again been found in Canandaigua Lake.
The Daily Messenger reports areas of most concern are mid-lake and along the east side, but officials warn you may see the algae anywhere in the lake. 55 waterbodies in that state have confirmed or suspected blue-green algae blooms, including Keuka, Cayuga, and Skaneateles Lakes. It was discovered over the weekend Skaneateles contains nearly nine times the amount of toxic chemicals that the state considers to be “high toxins.”
Ingesting large amounts of the water impacted by blue-green algae can kill pets and cause liver damage in humans.
