John “Jack” B. Swartwood, aka Pushrod, 80, passed away peacefully Aug. 10, 2017.
Jack was a kind and brilliant man, known and loved by many. He was a true Jack of all trades that could build or fix just about anything and a beautiful musician that played guitar. He was formerly trained at Packard Studebaker long ago in New York City. He worked as a mechanic at various places and was also self-employed. Jack served as a member of U.S. Army and the New York State Army National Guard for many years. He loved to reminisce about the good old days and be in the company of family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Viola Rose Webster Swartwood and Marvin George Swartwood; two brothers, Raymond and Dudley Swartwood; two sons, Larry and Joseph Swartwood, and his daughter, Patti Jo Swartwood.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Trish Wunder; his brother, Rodney (Jean) Swartwood; his sister, Frances (Dave) La Point; his children, Deborah (Sheridan) Brooks, John (Jackie) Swartwood, Steven (Janet) Swartwood, Jackie (Frank) Finch, Richard Swartwood, Jim (Jenny) Swartwood, Carl Swartwood, and Chad (Molly) Swartwood; grandchildren, Adrian (Laurel) Mawhir, Morgan (Zoey) Mawhir, Aaron (Lindsay) Swartwood, Molly (Gerry) Towne, Jessica (Ray) Wilkinson, Jennifer (Rodney) Maine, Joanne Swartwood, Shaina Nordahl (Mike Mastropetro), Chelsea Nordahl (Matt Fergason), Hailey Swartwood, Sam Swartwood (Jake Cook), Kody Swartwood, Megan Swartwood, Abby Swartwood, Austin Swartwood, and Dustin Swartwood; great-grandchildren, Aidian Kolb, Zoey Cammilleri, and Hadley Ferguson; many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 in Ridgeway Cemetery, Ledyard, N.Y.
