There are a lot of questions out there regarding a Friday spill of raw sewage at the City of Geneva’s Marsh Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility. An estimated 5-thousand gallons emptied into the creek which drains into Seneca Lake. The city contacted the State DEC right away but it wasn’t until Sunday afternoon at 3:27 PM that Seneca Lake State Park posted the following closure notice on Facebook. “Due to possible contamination from a recent sewage spill in Geneva, swimming at Seneca Lake State Park will be prohibited until further notice.” City Manager Matt Horn says the City followed the proper notification procedure.
The swimming area was re-opened this morning, after test samples showed the water to be safe.
