Two drivers were sent to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse Thursday afternoon following a two-car crash on Route 5 at County House Rd. Cayuga County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Axton says shortly before 4:00 pm 54-year old Bernard Smith Jr. of Montezuma made a left turn from Route 5 and was struck by a westbound SUV driven by 32-year old Jessica Dunn of Auburn. Smith was airlifted to Upstate and Dunn was transported by ambulance, both with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing. An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene of a serious traffic accident in the Town of Sennett shortly before 4:00pm on Thursday. Cayuga County Sheriff’s dispatch tells Finger Lakes News Radio Sheriff’s Office accident investigators at the time of this report are still on the scene on NY Route 5 (Grant Avenue Rd. near County House Rd.)
Initial reports indicated two or four vehicles were involved in the wreck. At least one person was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. The Citizen reports two injured people were transported to Upstate by ambulance.
