AUBURN | Elizabeth Jean Trice, 93, of Auburn, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Miles and Adeline Eibert Grinnell. Elizabeth was a graduate of Cayuga Community College and a magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse University, at the age of 60 years young. She was the first woman CPA in Cayuga County and retired from the former Bowen, Lyons, and Pine accounting firm. Prior to becoming an accountant, she was employed for many years with the United Way of Cayuga County. She formerly served on the boards of the regional organization of the Girl Scouts of America, the Auburn Chamber Orchestra, and Tomato Fest, and was a local coordinator for the AARP Medicare-Medicaid Insurance Counseling Program, and an AARP tax aide. She was active in her earlier days with Church Women United, the Zonta Club of Auburn, and the Central NY Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants. In 1996, she received a Cayuga Community College Distinguished Alumna Award. She was a caring and generous person, who gave without stint to her family, her friends, and her community. She is survived by her children, Judith A. Trice, of Auburn, and Curtis R. Trice (Judy), of Rochester; two sisters, Norma Bennett, of Rochester, and Greta Renfro, of Auburn; grandchildren, Shannon E. Trice (Jo-Ann), of Syracuse, and Kelly Watson (Todd), of Rochester; five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Herbert V. Trice, on January 5th of this year. Calling hours are from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, followed by a funeral service at 11:15 a.m. at Langham Funeral Home, Auburn. A private family burial will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery. The omission of flowers is requested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Finger Lakes or to the Zonta Club of Auburn, in memory of Elizabeth.
