In June of 1953, Joyce married Irving Snyder. They lived in Corning, N.Y. and were married 47 years until he passed away in 2000. Joyce had a long career as an artist, specializing in pen-and-ink portraits and architectural drawings and scenery painting. She taught art classes for adults and children and was known for her drawings of private homes and landmarks, including those of Corning, Inc. and the Corning Museum of Glass. Joyce loved animals and raised a significant amount of money for the Finger Lakes SPCA by donating the proceeds from her sale of pet portraits. She also did portraits of farm animals with the proceeds going to the East Coast Farm Sanctuary. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Julie (Will) Sherwood of Naples and Wendy Snyder (John Flink), both naval officers in Washington, D.C.; sister, Charlotte (Eugene) Tortone in Virginia Beach; three grandchildren; and extended family. A private gathering will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joyce M. Snyder to Finger Lakes SPCA, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, N.Y. 14810.
