GENEVA | Joseph M. Manning, 84, of Jay Street, passed away at his home on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, following a long illness. There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in St. Stephen's Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish. Joe was born on Nov. 30, 1928 in Winchester, Mass. and moved to Geneva in 1975. He was the son of the late George and Blanche Larue Manning. He graduated Merrimack College and moved to Geneva in 1975 to become the first administrator of the Geneva General Nursing Home. He was the founding administrator for the Cayuga County Nursing Home in Sennett and retired as administrator for the Ontario Health Facility in Hopewell. Joe was a member of several professional nursing home associations. He was a member of the Geneva Country Club, and the Geneva Historical Society, where he served as a docent at Rose Hill Mansion. Joe was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, where he served on and was past president of the Parish Council. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Susan (Alan Demers) Manning, of Hector, N.Y., Kathleen Mowrey, of Atlanta, Ga., Joseph M. (Donna) Manning Jr., of Auburn, Carol M. Grant, of Chatham, N.J., and Barbara (David) DelCogliano, of Colonie; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, George and Ferdinand Manning.
