She was born on June 4, 1930 in Syracuse the daughter of the late Leon and Alice Cute-Powers. Shirley was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo High School where she was a drum majorette. She worked at GTE Sylvania, Skoi-Yase School Cafeteria and retired from Goulds Pumps where she worked as the Head of the mail room.
In her earlier years, Shirley enjoyed being an assistant Girl Scout leader, bowling, crafts and ceramics. She enjoyed visiting her daughter and son-in law when they resided in Maryland, Pennsylvania and most recently, North Carolina. She enjoyed her grand-dogs, Brandi and Chelsi, who are welcoming her with "open paws" in heaven. She loved spending time at family cook-outs and parties with her nieces and nephews, of whom she loved very much. She enjoyed visiting with her daughter's friends and classmates last July, when they were home for their 40th class reunion. It is no wonder why God chose Valentines Day to call her home. She had a big heart and was always doing for others all of her 82 years. As she quietly rests in peace, she will be forever loved and missed.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Bobby) Hale of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Pauline Manno of Waterloo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her four brothers, Edward, Thomas, Johnny and Donald Powers.aterloo
