Clifton Springs - Martha "Marty" Pfiefer age 64 of Virginia Beach, Va. died peacefully at the home of her daughter on Monday (January 21, 2013).
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends may attend a memorial service on Sunday (January 27) at 1 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. Marty's ashes will be released in the Atlantic Ocean near the home of her daughter in Charleston, S.C.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Finger Lakes Cancer Center at Clifton Springs Hospital, 6 Coulter Drive, Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
Marty was born on November 5, 1948 in Guam. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Peggy Wertz Pfiefer. Her father was in the Army and so Marty lived for several years each in Okinawa and Germany. She owned and operated her own specialty lighting company in Virginia Beach and was known for her exceptional customer service. Creativity was one of Marty's gifts; she baked all her childrens' birthday cakes, crocheted, made a variety of craftshow wares, and was an expert seamstress. She loved to read and also loved the beach.
She is survived by her daughters, Tracy (Brian) Heffron of Clifton Springs, Karen (Conor) Keys of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren, Karen and William Heffron; two sisters, Lenore (John) Mullen of N.H., Peggy Hartman of Penn., several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many cousins.
