Elizabeth "Betty" Burtless, 87, formerly of Powers Road, Throop, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Auburn Community Hospital. She was born on Nov. 20, 1925, the daughter of Anna and Harry Brundage. Betty was employed by Cayuga County in the accounting division for many years, until retiring in 1981. She was always on the go. When her children were small, she was president of the PTA, a den mother, 4-H leader, and assisted with youth baseball. After retirement, she began a much loved second career in quilting, pillow making and crafts and sold her goods at regional markets and festivals. She was actively involved in Home Bureau and was elected state secretary. She was predeceased by her husband, Norwood (Francis) Burtless, with whom she celebrated 65 years of marriage. She is survived by her two sons, Richard and Donald (Macki), of Throop; one daughter, Deborah (Thomas) Kelly, of Moravia; six grandchildren, Amy (Jim) D'Angelo, Andrew (Amy) Burtless, Colin and Brett Kelly, and Donald (Ali) and Thomas Burtless; three great-grandchildren, Azure D'Angelo, Daniel and Nathan Burtless. She is also survived by her dearly loved sister, Mary Brown; sister-in-law, Hazel Brundage; five nieces and nephews, and predeceased by her two brothers, William and Richard Brundage. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cayuga County Nursing Home for the loving care she received there. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Audioun Funeral Home, 218 Main St., Port Byron, with funeral services immediately following at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Port Byron Methodist Church or the Port Byron Food Pantry.
