QUINCY, Fla./ROSE - Alfred Welch Jr., 84, passed away on (December 3, 2012) at Newark-Wayne Hospital.
Family and friends may call on Saturday (Dec. 8) from 1 to 2 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church, Travell-Knapps Corners Rd., Lyons, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery.
Alfred was born March 22, 1928 in Rathbone, N.Y., a son to the late Alfred and Ellen Mattison Welch. He was a resident of Quincy, Florida for the past 20 years. He was a veteran of the Army during WWII. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved to play bingo and loved his family and dogs.
He is survived by son, David of Fla.; seven daughters, June Fillman of Newark, Sylvia (Larry) Syrell of Ariz., Betty (James) Donk of Rose, Donna (Jerry) Elliott of Lyons, Arlene Lewis of Fla., Mary Saulsberry of Fla. and Penny (Tim) Morgan of Fla.; 23 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-granddaughters; sister, Verda Stugart of Pine City and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Helen in 2011; son, Glenn Friends; brothers, Robert, Lee and Ivan Welch and sisters, Helen Colson and Isabelle Simmons.
Arrangements were entrusted to Farnsworth-Keysor Funeral Home, North Rose.
