Kathryn Ward Stanzak, 96, of Tavares, Fla. and of Auburn, passed away peacefully, early Monday morning, Nov. 12, 2012, at the Finger Lakes Center for Living. She was born in Butler, N.Y. on Feb. 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Reuben and Minnie Wells Ward and had resided in both Florida and Auburn for an extended period of time. Prior to her retirement, Kathryn had been employed for many years as a secretary for Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse. She was a member of the local American Legion Woman's Auxiliary. Kathryn enjoyed decorating cakes, knitting, crocheting and working with many different styles of crafts. She loved the many weekends she spent camping with family and friends. Kathryn also excelled as a hairdresser for numerous friends and family members. She is survived by her loving children; a son, Wells (Judy) Stanzak, of Florida; three daughters, Kaye Ann Bauso, Betty Lou Van der Werff, both of Auburn and Sheryl Cousins, of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was predeceased by her husband, Steven Stanzak; a brother, Hadwen Ward and two son-in-laws, David Cousins and Lebertus 'Bert' Van der Werff. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov.16, in the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in North Wolcott Cemetery.
