Waterloo - Joseph McCarthy, 67, passed away early Wednesday morning (November 7, 2012) at his home.
Friends and family are invited to call Friday (November 9), from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A funeral service will be Saturday (November 10) at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Lena Shipley, Pastoral Associate for Saint Mary's Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery.

Joe was born on May 24, 1945 in Waterloo the son of the late Frank and Alice Speers-McCarthy. He was a 1963 graduate of Waterloo High School. He worked for 23 years as a machinist for the American Can in Geneva. Joe then went to work as a postman at the Canandaigua post office until he retired.
He was a member of the Waterloo Sportsman's Club. Joe enjoyed being outside, camping and riding motorcycles and snowmobiles.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon B. Appleman - McCarthy of Waterloo, whom he married on August 21, 1965; his sons, Joseph L., Jr. and David F. (Heather) McCarthy both of Waterloo; grandsons, David and Bradley McCarthy; his sister,
Kathleen (James) Piere of Colorado Springs, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sheila Marie McCarthy and his sister and brother-in-law, Leah (Roland) Ditzell.
