GENEVA - John Costa, 95, of Geneva passed away peacefully on (November 5, 2012), at Seneca Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo.
There will be no prior calling hours. There will be a private service at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home in Geneva, followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka Kansas 66675.
John was born in Geneva, son of Cosimo and Maria Costa, and graduated from Geneva High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 4th Division, 12th Infantry. In the European Theater of Operations, he was in all major battles: Normandy, Bloody Mortain, St. Lo break through, liberation of Paris,
Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes, Luxemberg and Bastone). He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Arrowhead, D-Day Landing, 5 major campaign battle stars, Unit Presidential Citations, and three Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his daughters, Felicia Allison of Middletown, N.Y., and Maria Costa of Clifton Springs; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Costa of Geneva; and brothers, Frank Costa of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sam Costa of Geneva.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Irene.
