Winston Salem, N.C./Geneva, N.Y. - John P. O'Byrne, Jr., 50, passed away peacefully on Thursday (October 4, 2012) with his family by his side at Wake Forest Baptist Memorial Hospital after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday (Oct. 10) at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, John's family requests memorial contributions be made in John's name to Cancer Research at Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642 or to Wake Forest Baptist Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Blvd., Winston Salem, NC 27157.
John was born October 11, 1961 in Geneva, N.Y. He was the son of John and Irmgard Heister O'Byrne. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1979 and Finger Lakes Community College. He moved to North Carolina in 1985 where he worked as a graphic artist for 25 years.
Johnny will always be remembered not only as an accomplished pianist, but also for his crazy jokes and love of life. He will mostly be remembered for his kindness and compassionate ways. He had an amazing and positive outlook on life regardless of the obstacles put in his path.
John is survived by his parents, John and Irma O'Byrne; his sister, Deborah (Duncan Oldham) O'Byrne; aunts and uncles, Bill and Mary O'Byrne, Peggy and Paul Nagle; numerous cousins and friends, especially, Mamie Higgins, Joanne and Robert Reed, and Maree Walczak and family.
He will remain in the hearts of many of his friends in North Carolina, especially Randy and Melody Pearman, Wayne, Jennifer, and Sarah Hollowell, and his dog, Buster.
John was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Heinrich and Emma Heister; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Nancy O'Byrne; great-aunt and uncle, Mollie and Joseph McDonough; aunt and uncle. Kay and Neil Flynn; and his beloved nieces, Emma Rose O'Byrne Harris, and Maxie.
