Isabel Youngs, 92, passed away, with her family by her side, Tues day (June 17, 2014), at the Seneca Nursing and Rehabilita tion Center.
Friends and family may call Friday (June 20), from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia St., Waterloo. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday (June 21) at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Waterloo. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be directed to either DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), 1776 D St. NW, Washington, DC 20006 or St. Mary's Church, 25 Center Street, Waterloo, New York 13165.
Mrs. Youngs was born in Rochester, NY, on November 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Dorothy Gee Lanphear. She was a 1939 Graduate of Waterloo High School and Rochester Business Institute. She worked as a reporter for the Finger Lakes Times interviewing people like Bob Hope and Ike Eisenhower at the opening of Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls. She also worked at the Farm and Home Center and then as a legal Secretary for Arthur I. Seld. Isabel was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the DAR. She loved the Arts, ballet and theater and British programs. She volunteered 25 years for Meals-on-Wheels, life member of the VFW Auxiliary, active in local politics, and did literacy volunteer work. She loved to travel - Russia, Europe, and out west to Arizona and south to Florida. She was a great teacher and student of life.
Mrs. Youngs is survived by her children, Michael Youngs of Newark, Timothy Youngs of Waterloo, Amy (Edward) Zukowski of Plattsburgh, Christopher Youngs of Canandaigua, Elizabeth Wyatt of Palm Harbor, Fla., Joan (Jeffery Reed) Youngs of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jean (Paul) Merkley of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephen (Diane) Zukowski, Julie (John) Drumm, Penelope Youngs, Laurie (Trey Sandow) Youngs, Kimberlee (Mike) Avery and Kathleen (Jamie Brown) Youngs; great-grandchildren, Gregory and Lindsey Drumm, Katherine and Stephanie Zukowski; a sister, Kate Breese of Shortsville; first cousins, Ken Gee and Mary Jo Lanphear; special thanks to Ronnie McCutcheon Colleen Booth and nieces Kathy Mitchell and Debbie Marquart.
Isabel is preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 1960; a daughter, Kathleen Rose Mary Youngs who died in 1948; her sister Barbara Ireland who died this year and her brothers Bert, Carl, George, Jack and Jim Lanphear.
