Canandaigua- Elizabeth "Betty"Jane Bjorling, age 90, of Centerpointe Blvd, passed away, Friday, (January 17, 2014) at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua. Friends may call Wednesday,(January 22, 2014) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 365 Parrish St., Canandaigua. Her funeral service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation , Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10016.
Mrs. Bjorling was born in Newark, N.Y., August 14, 1923 the daughter of the late Burton and Daisy Hooper. She actively served in the USO during WWII and throughout her life she served others and her community. Mrs. Bjorling along with her husband helped start a youth program in Palmyra. She retired from Comstock Foods in Newark, where she worked as a secretary for many years. Mrs. Bjorling was a lifelong member and past president of the Newark Circle of the King's Daughters, and actively served in all of the churches she attended during her lifetime. She enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble and other games with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren
Mrs. Bjorling will be remembered by her two sons, Eric (Debra) Bjorling of New Jersey and Christopher (Heidi) Bjorling of Canandaigua; nine grandchildren, Jon Eric, C. Michael, Alexander, Nicholas, Spencer, Kathryn, Carlyn, Jared, Taryn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Bjorling in 2004 and her sister, Elsie Hooper Pentz.
