Newark - Dorothy Jean Hares, 85, entered eternal rest on Saturday (October 12, 2013) at home with her loving family by her side. Family and friends may call on Friday (Oct. 18) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A Funeral Service will be Saturday (Oct. 19) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairville Cemetery. Mrs. Hares was born the daughter of the late Merle and Letti (Shelley) Hathaway on Sunday, July 15, 1928 in Hornell, N.Y. Over many years she had worked for the Wayne County Nursing Home and the Finger lakes DDSO. She was a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens, where she always looked forward to going and the Top of the Hill. Mrs. Hares had a love for gardening, flowers, cooking, crochet and especially her family. She enjoyed big gathering and holidays. She will be remembered for her generosity and always feeding people who stopped by her home.
Mrs. Hares will be remembered by her loving husband of 65 years, Donald Hares; daughter Donna (Jim) Bannatyne; sons Jerry (Lori), Ronald, Wayne, Wes, Kevin (Sandy), Dale (Kim) and Randy (Shelley); 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Karen Hares; many, many friends.
Mrs. Hares was by predeceased her step-father Ray Davis; son Daniel Hares; and great-granddaughter Julia Bannatyne.
