GENEVA - Michael J. Zona, 92, of Lewis St., passed away on Thursday (June 27, 2013) in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Canandaigua.
Friends may call at the DeVaney – Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., on Sunday (June 30) from 3 to 5 p.m. (*Note Time Change*) Members of the Winnek Post #396 American Legion will meet at 4 p.m. for a service for their departed brother and member of Geneva Council # 272 Knights of Columbus will meet at 4:30 p.m. for a service for their departed brother. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (July 1) in the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, VAVS c/o voluntary services, 400 Fort Hill Ave., Canandaigua, N.Y. 14424.
Mike was born in Boston, Mass. and resided in Rochester before moving to Geneva several years ago. He was the son of the late Anthony and Jennie Denaro Zona. Mike served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired as a bartender at the Knights of Columbus in Geneva. He was a member of Winnek Post #396 American Legion, Geneva Council # 272 Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, and Our Lady of Peace Parish.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Chelenza Zona.
