AUBURN - Ralph J. Massi, 83, formerly of Newark, Lyons and Auburn, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning (June 11, 2013) at Auburn Community Hospital. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pettigrass Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. for services at the funeral home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn with burial to follow in Soule Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ralph's memory to either the American Red Cross, American Lung Association or to the Local Rescue Mission.
He was born on January 6, 1930 in Auburn, the son of the late Pasquale and Anna DiBlazio Masi and had been an area resident for most of his life. Ralph was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Philippines. Upon returning home from the military, Ralph drove taxi cab for many years for Red Diamond Taxi. He also worked for twelve years at Hammond & Irving and retired from Xerox in Rochester after more than 22 years of service. He was a member of the August Mauer Post 286 American Legion in Newark for many years. Ralph enjoyed boating and fishing in his earlier years. He was most happy, the times spent with his family and especially loved the countless meals shared with each and every one of them. Ralph would always put others first and will be sadly missed in so many ways by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving children, daughters Carol (John) Netzer, Lorraine Massi of Auburn, son Kenneth Massi of Calif.; sister, Theresa Gay of Boonville; sisters-in-law Mildred Massi of Auburn, Effie Massi of Seneca Falls; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; step-sons Jerry Fultz of New York, Earle Fultz Jr. of Oregon as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by a daughter Diane; his second wife Annie "Betty" Fultz Massi; his first wife and mother of his children Betty Massi Hough; a sister Philomenia "Fannie"; and two brothers Sam and Jim.
