SCIPIO CENTER | John â€œJackâ€? Bernard Flynn, 90, of Scipio Center, passed away April 28, 2013, at Groton Community Health Care. John was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary O'Herron Flynn. John was a lifetime resident of Scipio Center and retired from the Southern Cayuga Central School custodial department. He was a devoted family man, husband, father, and grandfather. He always had a family member to look after and was a wonderful caregiver. John was a charter member of the fire department in Scipio and a member of the â€œBored to Deathâ€? Group, which during the week would visit a plant or farm and then have lunch afterward. He was an avid gardener and hobby farmer who raised cash crops. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, F. Margaret Flynn, of Scipio Center, who were married on June 15, 1946; son, Frank J. Flynn, of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Marcia A. Clark and her husband, Russ, of Locke; two grandchildren, Jeff Utter and his wife, Danielle, of Locke, and Molly Clark, of Locke; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Utter; sisters-in-law, Joan Kenyon, Anne Hartnett and her husband, Coral, Frances Sovocool and her husband, Lewis, and Irene Tyrrell; brother-in-law, Don Tyrrell and his wife, Jackie; cousins, Mildred Bondy, Linda Bentencourt, and the Martin Baumes family; several nieces and nephews, and loving caregivers, Shelly, Sandy, and Jeri. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Fredrick Joseph â€œJoeâ€? Flynn and sister, Eva Colgan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 1, 2013 at St. Anthony's Church, 312 Locke Road, Groton, with the Rev. Malachy Nwosu officiating. Shakelton Funeral Home, 418 Main St., Aurora, is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Scipio.
