Four Auburn police officers are involved with the School Resource Officer program in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. The officers oversee all seven schools in the district. SRO supervisor Sergeant Greg Dann tells Finger Lakes News Radio the SRO program serves two purposes.
Sergeant Dann says the program, which has been around since 2000, says building relationships with students is important to the program's continued success.
Auburn's SRO program is part of a national program. Officer Paul Martin has been involved with the program since it launched 13 years ago, and he says the officers don't sit around in an office all day.
In September, the Auburn City Council approved funding the program for the 2013 to 2014 school year. The SRO program has been around Auburn since 2000. Dann and Martin were guests on the Finger Lakes Morning News on WAUB. Listen to the full interview here.
