Brainard Pleads Guilty in Charity Theft

A Romulus woman has pleaded guilty to grand larceny and other charges in connection with the theft of tens of thousands of dollars from a Seneca County charity.

60-year old Mary Brainard worked for the Seneca County Children's Committee from 2007 to 2011. During that time, she stole money from the organization and submitted false records to cover up the thefts.

During her court appearance Friday, Brainard's attorney, Richard Swinehart presented checks totaling $26,600 as restitution.

Brainard is expected to be sentenced in October to six months in the county jail, followed by five years probation. Brainard faces federal jail time in a separate case.
