The New York State Department of Transportation today announced that, weather permitting, on Thursday, August 8, 2013, the first course of paving on state Route 228 will begin from state Route 224 in the village of Odessa and extend approximately 6.0 miles to Havens Road in the town of Hector, Schuyler County. Traffic will be maintained with a one-lane, two-way traffic pattern controlled by flag persons. Please note, this single lane operation may be up to two miles in length to allow for proper cure time of the pavement course before allowing traffic on to the recycled pavement. This first course should be completed by Friday, August 16, 2013.
A second course of paving will take place in late August or early September, conditions permitting. A new advisory will be issued at that time.
It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter this season.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
