25 Year Sentence in Shooting of Ithaca Police Officer

25 years in state prison for the man who shot an Ithaca police officer last October. 23 year old Jamel Booker received the maximum sentence for criminal use of a firearm in the shooting of Anthony Augustine. Augustine was pursuing Booker in connection with a stolen car investigation when he was shot in the chest. In April, a jury convicted Booker on seven charges, but hung on the most serious charge of attempted murder. No decision has been made on whether to retry Booker on that charge. Booker was also ordered to pay 110 thousand dollars for Augustine's medical expenses after he gets out of prison. Augustine suffered a stroke during the incident and has not been able to return to police work.
