Eight Red Cross volunteers from the Finger Lakes and western New York have gone to the Mohawk Valley to help flooded residents. The Red Cross has set up a shelter at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica that served 22 people Saturday night. Hundreds have been evacuated from homes in Oneida and Madison Counties. Those counties, along with Chenango and Herkimer Counties, have been declared disaster areas. This resident of the area calls the flooding overwhelming.
The National Weather Service says in Little Falls, the Mohawk River crested at three feet above flood stage Friday night before receding. Governor Cuomo toured
the flooded area Saturday.
