For the second time The Empire State Carrying Championship has fallen on its face.
In a carrying championship, a man carries a woman over an obstacle course. The winning team will receive the woman’s weight in wine.
Last August, the event was going to be held at Three Brothers Estates and Wineries in Fayette. The event then was cancelled because of lack of participation.
Late Saturday, organizers announced the event was cancelled again this time because of "unforeseen circumstances".
The event this year was to be held at Ventosa Vineyards on Route 96A in the town of Fayette. The event both years was supposed to be sponsored by Generations Bank of Seneca Falls. The event was to be webcast live on FingerLakes1.TV and benefit the Beverly Animal Shelter.
Here is the News Release sent out late Saturday afternoon announcing the Carrying Championships have been cancelled again.
SENECA FALLS – Cancelled. That’s the word received late Saturday afternoon concerning the Empire State Carrying Championship scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Ventosa Vineyards, Route 96A, Geneva.
“We regret to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel the Empire State Carrying Championship,” Race Director Jen Stanton said. “Our plans are fluid at this time and we are unsure when or whether the event will be rescheduled. We are grateful for the many hours so many volunteers have devoted to make the Carrying Championship the fun family event it was planned to be. We are especially grateful to our sponsors who worked with us. The committee regrets any inconvenience this announcement has caused.”
The after event party featuring music by the Dirty Birds and the buffed dinner by Ventosa Vineyards also is cancelled, she said.
