Carrying Championship This Weekend At Ventosa Vineyards

SENECA FALLS – Only a few days remain to get your entry in for the first ever Generations Bank Empire State Carrying Championships.  Pre entries close Tuesday.

The event will start at 3 p.m.  Sunday, June 30,. at Ventosa Vineyards. Route 96A, Geneva. The fun will continue into the night with an after party with live music by the Dirty Birds. Joining primary sponsor Generations Bank are sponsors Finger Lakes Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and Fingerlakes1.com.  FingerLakes1.com will be streaming the event live on the Internet. The live webcast can be viewed at www.fingerlakes1.tv on Sunday at 3:00 pm.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Beverly Animal Shelter and the American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes.

“We are grateful to Generations Bank for joining our team as primary sponsor and our presenting sponsors for helping make this event a success,” said Lynne Tyler of American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes.

Coed teams, male teams and female teams of two will carry one team member through a 375-yard obstacle course  on uneven terrain through the vineyard.  The winning team will be awarded the carried person’s weight in wine or juice up to 150 pounds.   There are two age groups – 16-20-year-olds will compete for grape juice.

“There are many techniques for carrying your partner – over the shoulder, upside down, piggyback,” said race director Jen Stanton.  “Get creative, get ready and get out there!”

Entry fee is $65 for pre-registration and $75 after June 25.  Registrations may be made online at www.empirestatecarryingchampionship.com. Registration includes participation in the race, tickets for the buffet, and admission to the after party with live music.

Party passes for the buffet and after party are available for $15, available only until June 25. Children age 10 and younger are free.  Spectator admission is free. 

“This is sure to be a fun, family-friendly event,” said race chairman Mark Benjamin.   “Ventosa Vineyards overlooking Seneca Lake is a beautiful venue and the competition is going to be hilarious.  We hope scores of teams will participate and hundreds of people will come out to cheer them on.”
