Smoking Ordinance Being Drafted for Canandaigua

One year ago the City of Canandaigua began discussions of a smoking ordinance. Ontario County Department of Health is now pursuing an ordinance once again. The idea of the ban stems from the model that is in place in Ontario County. The Ontario County Board of Supervisors passed a law earlier this year that prohibits tobacco use on county-owned and county-leased property, including within county-owned vehicles and within 100 feet of playgrounds, along with structures in county parks now the city staff is constructing a potential law to ban tobacco use completely. After being drafted. the ordinance will then be reviewed at the next Ordinance Committee meeting in June.
