Beginning today, road work will be done on Route 5 in Auburn. The New York State Department of Transportation says just under two miles of road between Mutton Hill Road and Seymour Street will be repaved. It's part of a nearly $2 million dollar state project.
A spokesperson for the DOT says the work will end in late July.
NYSDOT PAVING BEGINS In CAYUGA COUNTY
Resurfacing on Route 5 from Mutton Hill Road to Seymour Street in the city of Auburn
New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today announced that construction has begun on a $1.96 million project to resurface NY Route 5 in the City of Auburn, Cayuga County.
“Pavement restoration on this busy portion of Route 5 benefits the thousands of motorists using this road every day,” said Commissioner McDonald. “The many businesses located along this section of highway will benefit from an improved road surface, allowing easy access and continued development along this vital east-west corridor.”
Resurfacing will take place along Route 5, known as the Grant Avenue Arterial, from just north of Mutton Hill Road to Seymour Street, a distance of approximately 1.6 miles. Work will include milling and replacing the top 3.5 inches of asphalt and will also include full depth pavement repairs in locations near drainage structures, utility valves and other distressed areas.
Traffic will be maintained on-site in this four-lane section by shifting one lane of traffic in each direction to either side of the roadway’s centerline. Access to driveways will be maintained. Motorists may encounter flaggers directing traffic. It is imperative that motorists remember this season to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter.
The contractor on this project is Barrett Paving Materials, of Liverpool, Onondaga County. The work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
