UPDATE 2:15pm -
State police say one man is dead and another is hospitalized after their minivan collided with a milk tanker truck in Skaneateles early this morning. Police say a van being operated by 24-year-old Michael V. Stern, of Elbridge, was speeding on Jordan Road when it hit a milk tanker truck which was turning left from Stump Road onto Jordan Road.
The van traveled completely underneath the tanker and came to rest a short distance from it.
Stern sustained serious head injuries and was air lifted to the Upstate Medical Center.
The front seat passenger in the van, 26-year-old Patrick J. Hallinan, of Elbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 50-year-old James T. Whaley, of Pulaski, was not injured in the crash.
One person is dead and other injured after an early morning crash in Skaneateles. Police say a Byrne Dairy tanker was hit by a van around 2:00 this morning on Stump Road. The driver of the van, a 20-year-old man from Elbridge, died at the scene.
His passenger, who's also 20-year-old, is in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Their names have not been released. An investigation continues.
