Opening arguments are planned for Friday morning in Schuyler County court in the murder trial of Alice Trappler.
The Steuben County woman faces numerous charges, including second degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Trappler is accused of arraigning the killing of her ex-boyfriend and father of her child, Daniel Bennett in the town of Dix last April. Investigators say the shooter was Trappler’s ex-husband, 32-year-old Corning man Thomas Borden.
Twenty-five-year-old Corning resident Nathan Hand, Borden’s stepbrother, participated in the killing and will testify against Trappler in exchange for a 19-year prison sentence.
Borden was killed days after Bennett’s death when he jumped in front of a commuter train near Philadelphia as police moved in to apprehend him. Jury selection was completed in two days.
