Young Geneva Girl Attacked By Pit Bull

An 8-year-old girl is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull.

Altondria Campbell, of Geneva has been released from the hospital after she was attacked by a pit bull at a home in Geneva over the weekend.

Campbell was staying at a relative's home when she went to get her coat and began climbing a stairway. As she did this a 1 1/2 year old pit-bull that lives at this residence grabbed her by the left ankle and began biting and pulling her down the steps. The dog's owner was able to get the dog away from her but not before it bit her several times.

The dog’s owner got the dog away from the child but the girl sustained 18 puncture wounds and a chipped shin bone.

The Humane Society responded to the scene and transported the dog to their facility after it was found to have been involved in a previous bite and due to the injuries Ms. Campbell sustained during this incident.

Campbell was taken to Geneva General Hospital and then to Strong Hospital.

The dogs license and rabies vaccinations were current.  The dog has been turned over to the Humane Society.
