Congressman Tom Reed visited the Bergen Farm in Odessa Tuesday to discuss agricultural labor reform when it comes to the guest worker program, which allows for those in the agricultural community to hire foreign workers when a need is determined. Reed said the system doesn't work and is in need of reform.
Reed says they're trying to expand the program for dairy farmers.
Reed said they want to make the program available to multiple farmers that would be able to share workers. Their goal is for farmers to have a stable work force. The Bergen farm has 46-HUNDRED cows that produce more than 21-THOUSAND gallons of milk daily. The farm requires 50 employees.
